UNICEF, Deped & GMA Foundation Launch Linis Lusog Kids Project Print

Department of Education Secretary Brother Armin Luistro together with UNICEF Country Representative Vanessa Tobin and EVP GMA Kapuso Foundation Mel Tiangco led the ceremonial turn-over of Linis Lusog Kids project at Ayungon Central School on Wednesday July 14 in the municipality of Ayungon.

The UNICEF and GMA Kapuso Foundation work together for the project to reduce diarrhea and dental caries by teaching school children about life-saving health habits that will keep them safe from diseases. Under this project, more than 126,654 school children in 476 elementary schools in Negros Oriental are targeted to improve their hygiene, sanitation practices and academic performance.

Linis-Lusog Kids project (LLK) addresses basic health issues found in children that stem from lack of clean water and no toilets. Children from different underseved public schools in the country are taught proper hygiene practices and are given access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities.

Aside from these the school children will be given hygiene kits with soaps, toothbrushes and polypaste fluoride. According to the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Milagros Velez of DepEd, Negros Oriental a demonstration of the use of handwashing facilities was conducted after the program.

Health packages and water and sanitation hygiene (WASH) facilities such as comfort rooms will be turned over to five elementary schools in the province such as Apo Elementary School in Dauin; Banawe Elementary School in Pamplona; Kayotesan Manjuyod; ayungon Central School; and Bagtic Elementary School in La Libertad.

WASH projects is funded by Unicef abd GMA Kapuso Foundation with an equity from the respective local government units and the province. Those who attended the ceremony were provincial Government agustin perdices; the three district representatives, four local chief executives of the five recipient schools, and Regional Director Recaredo Borgonia of DepEd7.
