| EDC Funds Professional Chair At SU |

The Energy Development Corp. turned over a P3 million check
to the Oscar M. Lopez Distinguished Professional Chair in Engineering Endowment
Fund, at the Silliman university Luce Auditorium recently. The turn over was
witnessed by EDC chairman Oscar Lopez and his family, Paul Aquino, vice
president and CEO of EDC, and Silliman University president Dr. Ben Malayang.
Also present were the Deans, Faculty, staff and students of
the College of Engineering and Designs. The signing of the Deed of Donation was
held on April 19, 2010 after the project was formalized. EDC chairman Lopez
said he is thankful to actually work with Silliman University as they have the
same commitment in preserving the environment. He is also acknowledged that SU
is considered as the most environmental-friendly campus in the country.
Lopez said he is looking forward to a continued good working
relationship with SU in search for more clean ands renewable sources of
energy. Malayang said he is grateful
that SU was chosen for the project. He added the university is willing to
engage in more studies to discover renewable clean energy.
The project will be established at the College of
Engineering and Design where the professional chair will be supported by the P3
million donation from the First gen. Corporation and EDC. The awardee of the
Professional Chair will be selected from the regular members of the College of
Engineering and Design Faculty.
Meanwhile, Lopez also donated copies of books on watersheds
and trees to SU library. The books are “Trees of Tropical Asia” written by
Harvard-educated James La Frankie and “Watersheds Sheltering Life” on the 20
major watersheds in the country published by the national Power Corporation, in
cooperation with the 45 organizations cite of EDC’s watershed management
efforts in the geothermal projects sites.
The books will also be donated to state colleges and
universities in EDC’s hose provinces in Leyte, Negros Oriental, Negros
Occidental, Albay, Sorsogon and Northern Cotabato. |
