Additional funds worth P140, 838 have been allocated for the expansion of the mangrove reforestation and rehabilitation project in Manjuyod town this year. The mangrove reforestation project will cover coastal barangays of the town.

Manjuyod Information officer Daphne Cofreros said the project resulted from a study of GREENCORE – Energy Development Corp. on January 15 among the residents of coastal barangays implementing the Mangrove Reforestration and Rehabilitation Project.

The team, led by EDC Supervisor Bobong Paglinawan, Survey Inspector Ramon Arong, Rodolfo Aransadi and facilitated by personnel from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, concluded that the coastal bay community residents has shown perseverance in sustaining said project in their areas. Cofreros disclosed that the initial allocation will be used for an expansion of five hectares.

Meanwhile, two more environmental projects are being implemented in two coastal towns here, namely Aqua Hatchery in Brgy. Bantolinao. Both projects launched in December last year are being facilitated by MENRO personnel in cooperation with the Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources.

According to Cofreros, said projects are income-generating and benefitting fisher folks and farmers in the two villages and at the same are preserving, conserving and causing the proliferation of marine specias in the areas. Construction of a hatchery pond in Bantolinao village for the aqua hatchery project or aqua-selve culture is currently ongoing.

Cofreros added that an Agro Forestry Upland Project, particularly Contour Farming, will soon be implemented on the slopes of Bantolinao to be planted by a variety of agricultural products. This project is still in cooperation with GREENCORE_\-EDC.
