The 9th Pinaskuhan Sayawait Festival 2009 will
kick off Sauynday and run until Jan. 2 next year, at the Sidlakan Negros
Village at E J Blanco Road, Piapi, Dumaguete City.
Highlights will be the presentations of the nativity scene at the Buglasan Agri-Fair booth of the different local government units in Negros Oriental. Board member Mariant Escaño-Villegas yesterday said they decided to hold the nativity scene competition to make the booth areas livelier. The LGU’s of Siaton, Amlan, Zamboanguita, Tayasan, Dumaguete and Mabinay have confirmed their participation, Villegas said, adding that the LGU’s may hire artists for the contest. Organizers, however, encourage the use of recyclable, indigenous and environment-friendly materials to help reduce the expenses, and contribute in efforts to fight climate change. The first place winning entry will receive P30, 000 and P20, 000 and P10, 000 for the second and third place winners, respectively, and consolation prizes of P5,000. Meanwhile, the Sayawit festival will be participated in by Bayawan and Dumaguete cities, and Mabinay, Tanjay, La Libertad and Amlan towns. Each will receive a subsidy of P10, 000 from the provincial government. First place award will be P60,000, and the second and third place winners, P50, 000 and P40, 000. The contingent with the Best Rondalla accompaniment will get P10, 000 each. Villegas said a Christmas bazaar will also be held at the Sidlakan Negros Village showroom. |
