The Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City has acquired an Immuno Assay or a computerized blood analyzer amounting to about P6.4 million, recently, Capitol said yesterday.

The equipment will be used for cardiac arrest patients, thyroid panels and can easily detect tumors. Adrian Sedillo of the provincial government said the equipment arrived Friday at the Negros Oriental Diagnostic Laboratory, in addition to the just-bought Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The amount used for the Immuno Assay was taken from the general fund of the province.

Chief of Hospital, Dr. Feliz Sy said, the equipment important for NOPH because it is one of the major requirements for accreditation as a Tertiary Level 1 Hospital. Patients no longer have to spend much for laboratory examination in private laboratories, Sy said. At least 37 percent of the total annual budget of the province belongs to its health system, including the maintenance of the laboratory equipment at the Negros Oriental Diagnostic Center; and inclusion of the Provincial Health Insurance of Negros Oriental for indigent residents not yet covered by PhilHealth.

Gov. Emilio Macias II had said the PHINO will complement the PhilHealth program as it will shoulder the hospital expenses of non-insured patients.
