In line with the celebration of its 60th anniversary, Foundation University will once again stage its annual festivity known as Kasadya-an held every December, this time from Dec. 5 to 18, 2009. According to Dr. Lilian P. Sumasagsay, FU dean of the Student Affairs, the various committees representing major activities, as well as the different departments of the University have convened as early as September to prepare and set the respective events for the Kasadya-an ’09. “The Kasadya-an is Foundation University’s way of showcasing a unique culture and presenting the talents of the students. It is a part of Foundation’s history as an institution”, Dr. Sumagaysay said. One thing that would make this year’s celebration different from previous years is the mandatory use of recycled materials for the decorations in line with the University’s environmental programs. Also, the Kasadya-an Village will be opened earlier to time with the Alumni Homecoming. With the inclusion of the black theater technique and the use of puppets for the Pasundayag, the University invited and sponsored the Black Theater Manila which performed a two-night presentation titled Magica on Nov. 6 and 7. The group also conducted a seminar-workshop on how to design, construct, and manipulate puppets, including, voicing and acting the stage performances. The workshop was attended by FU students, faculty, staff and faculty from other elementary schools in the city. The Kasadya-an activities aim to educate and entertain the University academic community, as well as the Dumaguete community. Among the highlights for the Kasadya-an celebration include the opening of the Kasadya-an Village, the final judging for the Christmas Decoration Contest, and the Alumni Homecoming on Dec. 5; the Hara sa FU coronation night on Dec. 10; Pasundayag on Dec. 11’ and the Parada, the awarding nights, and the fireworks display on Dec. 12. |
